What is Cross Country?
Just as important, running like many forms of exercise's is a great cure for stress, emotional strain, even mild depression. You'll likely find yourself with fewer headaches and more energy, patience, humor, and creativity. Confidence increases as you push your own limits: meeting goals and often surprising yourself by exceeding your own expectations. Running is a sport of discipline.
Cross country running is a running event in which runners compete to complete a course over open or rough terrain. The courses used at these events may include grass, mud, woodlands, hills, flat ground. At the middle school level, cross country races are typically 3200 meters (About 2 miles). At the high school level cross country races are 5k's or about 3.11 miles. The difficulty will vary depending on the course.

How to score a Cross Country meet for Team Placing?
Example Meet: Team A vs. Team B vs. Team C
Runners Finish in the order below...

Scoring is as follows:
Team A: 4 + 7 + 9 + 14 + 16 = 50 points
Team B: 3 + 6 + 8 + 11 + 18 = 46 points
Team C: 1 + 2 + 5 + 10 + 12 = 30 points
-The team with the lowest total points wins, and only 5 runners score. If there is a tie, then the team with the fastest 6th runner wins.
Based on the placings of each team runners and scoring the results would be:
Team C WINS, Team B gets 2nd, and Team A comes 3rd.
